OUR MISSION : A GLOBAL HEIRLOOMS SYSTEM

Nowadays, replacing the objects we broke or got tired of has become a commonplace. 

Even though we know the consequences of our behavior - destruction of nature, loss of resources, natural catastrophes and finally deprivation of our living space -  it is still hard to change our consumerism. The constant production, transportation and consumption processes create a huge amount of greenhouse gases on a global scale, leaving a terrifying environmental footprint . In 2018 Iceland had the 4th highest greenhouse gas release of the world, most of it caused by consumption habits. But we can change this! 

 

On a more personal level, our relation to our daily life objects is also a shame:  in a world of deindividualized mass production we have completely lost touch with the objects we own. 

It is so easy to replace things even though they have only slight (beauty) errors. They are made by an emotionless machine, sold by another one, and even during their useful time we do not especially care about them. What a sad life for them - and for us!

 

Just think for a moment of a jewel, cutlery, or anything that has been given to you by someone you love. If you lose it, even if it does not have any significant financial value, you will feel sad, but it will give you some much joy when you hold it in your hands. What if we could give to our ordinary objects the same power? We are convinced that granting intrinsic value to each of those things which are part of our lives would significantly increase our happiness.

 

This is why our project has a twofold goal: We aim to reduce waste production and wasting of resources by increasing the emotional alliance with the things we own. We want to prevent climate change through art, emotions, memories and stories.

 

Message in a Bottle gives you the opportunity to give your everyday life’s object a narrative. 

We want to create a space where people can get in touch with, value their belongings again, and consequently use them longer. Although recycling methods are continuously improving, the best type of waste will always be the waste we have never created!

 

With our idea we will be able to save a significant amount of energy and resources since products are used for a much longer time. Let’s be in a long-term relationship with our belongings again and embrace their individual dents, mistakes and characteristics. Every single one has a story and here is the platform to finally tell them.

 

We collect, we repair, we create, we adopt. We collect every “soulbject” that you do not need anymore. Then, any member of the community can either help you to repair it or associate it with a piece of another soulbject to create a new one. Even better: we can connect you to professional designers so you can discover your artistic potential.
